HORTICERT Stakeholder Workshop
HORTICERT Stakeholder Workshop Concludes Project Phase Successfully
On November 25, 2025, the 9th HORTICERT Stakeholder Workshop was held in Berlin, welcoming more than 60 participants both in person and online. Representatives from industry, retail, research institutions, NGOs, and other organizations came together to mark an important milestone: the successful completion of the HORTICERT project phase.
The event provided a platform for discussing key developments and future challenges in the growing media sector. Topics included:
- Recent advancements in the HORTICERT certification system, particularly regarding digital supply chain traceability and greenhouse gas requirements
- Ongoing research needs for compost
- Opportunities and challenges within the coir supply chain
- The future role of certification in promoting sustainability in horticulture
These discussions highlighted the importance of transparent standards and collaborative approaches in driving sustainable practices across the industry.
With the conclusion of this project phase, HORTICERT has established a robust and transparent certification system for sustainable peat substitutes and growing media. This achievement represents a significant step toward reducing peat use in horticulture and strengthening the sector’s commitment to climate-friendly solutions.
We extend our sincere thanks to all participants for their valuable contributions and engagement throughout the workshop and the entire HORTICERT journey. Special appreciation goes to Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe e.V. (FNR) and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity (BMLEH) for their continuous support, which has been instrumental in advancing sustainability in the growing media sector.
HORTICERT will continue to build on this foundation, working closely with stakeholders to promote innovation and sustainability in horticulture.
Further background information on the completion of the project and the workshop can also be found in the press release issued by the FNR.
